Sarah

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than seven years of experience primarily focused on helping my clients have better relationships with their partners and their family members. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Marian College. I earned my Master’s degree and my Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Connecticut. In my experience, couples often feel triggered in conversations with their partner which make these conversations feel overwhelming. My couples often tell me that they feel like they are having the same argument with their partner again and again and feel like these conversations just send them down rabbit holes. I work to unpack how each person is being triggered in these conversations and help them learn how to understand and manage their emotions. This work allows my couples to have more meaningful conversations where they both feel more seen and heard by their partner. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy as the basis for my couple's work. In addition to being a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am also a potter and sell my pottery at local art shows. I have been married for more than 20 years, and have 2 beautiful children and 2 crazy cats from the Human Society. I am an affirming LGBTQ+ therapist and strive to meet my clients where they are with care and humor.

I believe the key to a successful counseling experience is built from a sense of respect, trust, and honesty- not only with each other, but with ourselves. I understand entering into a new counseling relationship might feel daunting or uncomfortable- whether it is your first time or your 10th. I aim to create a judgement free environment where you can be real with me and I will be real with you. Most of my clinical experience has been with young adults experiencing life challenges and phase of life changes. I earned a degree from Appalachian State University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a body-centered concentration. I strive to work with you in a culturally-relevant way that works with who you are to create a holistic and sustainable counseling experience.
I have lived in the high country for 12 years and could not be happier to call this place my home. In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, engaging with nature, gardening, hiking, walking, yoga, and other forms of nurturing movement. I am an advocate for your well-being and look forward to engaging in this experience with you.
I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna. I also accept private pay.
